Advanced Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health Course

Introduction

This industrial hygiene course provides broad and comprehensive coverage of the Role and Responsibility of the industrial hygienist in recognizing, evaluating, and controlling environmental stressors associated with the workplace. Course topics include recognition and evaluation of chemical, physical and biological exposures; ergonomic hazards; radiation hazards; thermal stress; ventilation; and programs related to controlling industrial hygiene stressors.

Objectives

    By the end of the semester, students will be able to:

    • Recognize appropriate procedures and techniques for identifying health hazards in the workplace.
    • Describe the role and responsibilities of the industrial hygienist in the development and management of a comprehensive occupational safety and health program.
    • Identify appropriate personal protective equipment required to provide interim control of health hazards in the workplace.
    • List appropriate procedures and standards required to properly evaluate health hazards in selected workplaces.
    • Identify appropriate types of engineering and administrative controls for health hazards in the workplace.
    • Identify and evaluate ergonomic hazards and make recommendations to control them

Training Methodology

This is an interactive course. There will be open question and answer sessions, regular group exercises and activities, videos, case studies, and presentations on best practice. Participants will have the opportunity to share with the facilitator and other participants on what works well and not so well for them, as well as work on issues from their own organizations. The online course is conducted online using MS-Teams/ClickMeeting.
