Hazard of Ammonia Handling, Storage & Shipping (Liquid & Gas)

Introduction

Ammonia has a variety of uses. It is used as a refrigerant, a cleaning and bleaching agent, and a household cleanser. It is also used to produce fertilizers, plastics, explosives and pharmaceuticals. Ammonia is very important to plant, animal, and human life. It is found in water, soil, and air, and is a source of much needed nitrogen for plants and animals. Most of the ammonia in the environment comes from the natural breakdown of manure and dead plants and animals. There are, however, some hazards associated with ammonia. The purpose of this course is to discuss these hazards and how to protect you against them.

Objectives

By attending this course you will:

    • Learn best practices for ammonia system safety and operation
    • Understand relevant safety codes and standards
    • Get answers to your specific questions
    • Avoid operational risks with a solid understanding of safety in ammonia refrigeration
    • Ammonia Identification Physical Properties of Ammonia Storage Requirements Safe Handling Requirements Exposure Information
    • Receive the latest updates on ammonia safety regulations

Training Methodology

This is an interactive course. There will be open question and answer sessions, regular group exercises and activities, videos, case studies, and presentations on best practice. Participants will have the opportunity to share with the facilitator and other participants on what works well and not so well for them, as well as work on issues from their own organizations. The online course is conducted online using MS-Teams/ClickMeeting.
