Dry Gas Seal Operation, Maintenance, Installation and Commissioning

Introduction

The course considers major aspects of Dry Gas Seal Systems applications and operation.  It provides a review of dry gas seal theory and in-depth analysis of system application, design, and a guide to seal and system component selection. Also, the course provides an overview of system reliability, safety, and troubleshooting. Keeping gas compressors running with the least troubles and shutdown decreases the downtime of the whole system. The right selection, maintenance, installation, and commissioning of sealing systems are very essential for the right compressor operation. Dry gas seals are widely used now in different compressor applications. Effective maintenance programs, reliable monitoring systems, and skilled personnel capable of doing the right installation are essential requirements for prolonging seals and compressors' life.

All the above can be achieved via a deeper understanding of the dry gas seal construction and tolerances, the limits and constraints on their operation, and the more effective controlling methods. This course will offer the opportunity to learn more about dry gas seals, their selection, maintenance, installation, and commissioning. During the course participant’s discussion, comments, bringing up their own problems are welcomed and encouraged

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

    • Know the different types of compressor seals, their use, proper operation, and performance
    • Understand the basic theory and application of dry gas seals
    • Understand the basic components and construction of dry gas seals
    • Understand requirements to seal medium, it's conditioning, and control
    • Learn the basics of operation and maintenance of dry gas seals
    • Understand the best practice of installation and commissioning of the dry gas seal

Training Methodology

This is an interactive course. There will be open question and answer sessions, regular group exercises and activities, videos, case studies, and presentations on best practice. Participants will have the opportunity to share with the facilitator and other participants on what works well and not so well for them, as well as work on issues from their own organizations.
